Between Toy and Talisman

Planetary Motion was born from a love of wearing jewelry before it was a love for making it. I have always found the metallic rhythm of necklaces against my chest, the chime of earrings clinking together, the bells on my anklets both soothing and enlivening.

Planetary Motion takes these full-body moments and melds them with comfort and sculptural form. Based in Brooklyn, NY, each piece is slowly hand crafted in small batch production. With a core collection of repeated designs, limited releases and one-off pieces, each element of Planetary Motion comes to life through the simple joy of making.

The work celebrates the multi-sensory nature of wearable art and self adornment through tactile and kinetic elements. Sound, movement, texture and curiosity all shape the design process without sacrificing wearability. Planetary Motion moves fluidly through the space between toy and talisman, delving into the majesty and maturity of play.

I grew up surrounded by jewelry and jewelry makers, my mother being on of them. The importance of craftsmanship and adornment bleed into all of my childhood memories: Images of bangles from my hands to my elbows, mornings spent selecting stones with my mother at the coffee table, the first necklace I never took off and eventually lost. Jewelry glitters through every part of my life, and so much of how I have always experienced the world. But, it wasn't until I moved to New York in 2023 that I began to learn the skills to create the jewelry that will (hopefully) work its way into others' everyday lives and memories. I began working as an apprentice jeweler as a part time gig, and my eagerness for the medium has taken over most of my life. 

In many ways this interest was inherited, but simultaneously it is also something I was led back to, found my way back to, and ultimately continue to discovered for the first time.
